Growing up in Turkey, I always thought Christmas celebrations meant New Year’s Eve celebrations. I am pretty sure it was the Hollywood movies that helped us adopt the Christmas tree, Santa and gift giving … Except we did those things for New Year celebrations! Oh and we would cook turkey that day as the specialty (as adopted from American Thanksgiving dinners!).
Naturally I don’t have a strong tradition around Christmas. And since my husband didn’t either, we both prefer traveling as we are mostly out of work this time of the year.
Our first trip to Puerto Rico has been an exciting one to plan!
We landed in San Juan airport and after we got a car, we were ready to get into our very first serious business: Eating famous Bebo’s BBQ located conveniently nearby the airport.
Then we get on to the road, on our way to Utuado Jungles
This area represents an alternative route to visitors with lesser known natural wonders and waterfalls and a hotel of our dreams: Casa Grande
After getting out of travel gear, we immediately took advantage of the fact that sun was out, resting in our balcony first, then stopping at the hotel’s beautiful pool before we got ready for dinner, accompanied by hotel’s beloved dog Kashike!
Hotel offers vegan breakfast and dinner options in farm-to-table style and they are seriously delicious. Something to keep you light while you enjoy lunch from somewhat heavy but must-try authentic Puerto Rican tastes from local food stalls in the area.
If you are ever in the area, you must take advantage of the location and watch the night sky. With almost no light pollution, you are guaranteed to see one or two shooting stars in no time!
Don’t forget to make a wish!
