We left Utuado to go to our next destination San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. On our way we knew we were going to get hungry so we planned to stop at a beach front restaurant located perfectly half way on our route: Salitre Meson Costero.
Perfect little spot to cool down and re-fuel!
We got down to business to order. First and foremost, in the birth place of pina colada, you need to order a pina colada!
If the plastic cup makes you doubt this unassuming drink, don’t! These were the BEST thing that can happen to someone who is in a tropical island looking to cool down.
Next up, we shared a plate of coconut shrimp. Not too heavy and full of flavor.
Finally, something you must try in Puerto Rico, mofongo. I got mine with more shrimp and with red sauce ( you can also opt in for white sauce which is simply garlic oil).
I almost couldn’t finish the mofongo but thankfully the local cats came to my help to eat the last bit of shrimp! After the meal, we were extremely full and ready to bail although we could safely spend a whole day drinking pina coladas and enjoying the beach at this location.
