We arrived on Old San Juan on Christmas Eve and spent the evening settling into our hotel. Luckily the hotel restaurant was fully in service, including the beautiful bar.
I mostly opt in for non-alcoholic drinks nowadays, but towards the night there were certainly folks who made up for my lack of participation on the booze game.
We took a stroll through the town after dinner, got a hold on how to navigate the cute cobblestone streets and called it a night. Waking up to Christmas next day to a fairly calm and yet cheerful streets.
It looked like Old San Juan residents were into buying Mexican Tuberose on Christmas morning. I never got to find out whether this was a tradition on this town or for all Puerto Ricans. Nonetheless, it seemed like something I would immediately participate had I lived here.
Taking advantage of having the streets mostly to myself, I visited the Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, a landmark from PR’s colonial legacy. Between 16th and 18th century, the castle became a fortress designed to protect the island from attackers approaching from sea.
Today, luckily, it only gives us a pretty background to imagine what it could have been to live in the past as a lady.
Photographing such a beautiful place with almost zero tourist around felt like a miracle that was given to me to be honest. By the time I got back, I was tired, hungry and thirsty. Perfect timing to relax at the hot tub!
I may or may not have flashed some people in the process of enjoying the occasional wind!
